New Zealand bounce back from their historic defeat to Argentina last weekend by thumping Los Pumas 53-3 in Hamilton to move temporarily top of the Rugby Championship.

New Zealand have avenged last weekend's historic defeat to Argentina with a convincing 53-3 victory over Los Pumas at the FMG Stadium in Hamilton.

One week on from recording their first ever win over the All Blacks in New Zealand, Argentina were well beaten as Ian Foster's side bounced back in impressive fashion.

Having struggled to break down a stubborn Argentina defence last weekend, New Zealand ran in seven tries in Hamilton, with Argentina only able to muster one penalty in response.

Under-pressure All Blacks head coach Foster raised eyebrows by naming an unchanged starting XV from last week's defeat, but he was rewarded for his show of faith by his players.

Ethan de Groot was the first to cross after just 10 minutes, before Caleb Clarke followed him over the line nine minutes later.

Rieko Ioane added a third shortly before half time, when Argentina had been reduced to 14 by Tomas Lavanini's sin bin.

Four more tries followed in the second half, including the pick of the bunch as Jordie Barrett finished off a stunning move which saw the All Blacks withstand heavy pressure and then break from inside their own 22 while at a numerical disadvantage with Fletcher Newell in the bin.

Ardie Savea and Brodie Retallick then crossed with two tries in six minutes before Beauden Barrett completed the rout as New Zealand ended a dreadful run of three successive home Test defeats.

Indeed, Foster's side had lost six of their last eight Test outings, but this win takes them temporarily to the top of the Rugby Championship table, replacing their opponents Argentina at the summit after Los Pumas had beaten Australia and New Zealand in succession before today.
