Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is still struggling with his mobility ahead of training camp after having off-season surgery, according to a report.

The 25-year-old underwent an operation on his ankle in March after sustaining an injury towards the end of the 2013 season.

The surgery was a success but it did rule Newton out of his side's organised team activities, which stopped him building familiarity with his host of new wide receivers.

Newton was said to be working out with his teammates ahead of the Panthers' training camp next week, but was restricted in his movements due to his recovery from the surgery, reports the Charlotte Observer.

Newton threw for 3,379 yards and 24 touchdowns to 13 interceptions in the 2013 season.
