The Denver Broncos have opened up a 17-10 half-time lead over the Kansas City Chiefs as they seek to overtake Andy Reid's side at the top of the AFC West.
Matt Prater kicked the Broncos ahead early on at Sports Authority Field and Julius Thomas added to that advantage with three minutes remaining in the first quarter thanks to a pass from Peyton Manning.
The Chiefs' reply came from Dwayne Bowe, who gathered Alex Smith's pass to make it 10-7 early in the second quarter, but a one-yard rush from Montee Ball restored the 10-point cushion for John Fox's men.
Ryan Succop hauled the Broncos within seven once more with a 20-yard field goal, although Prater could have edged the home side 10 ahead once again but missed, as he saw his attempt sail wide of the posts 30 seconds before the break.
