The Denver Broncos have beaten the Kansas City Chiefs 27-17 at Sports Authority Field, ending their nine-game winning streak and moving to the top of the AFC West division.
John Fox's side dominated the early play and built a 10-point lead by the end of the first quarter, thanks to a field goal from Matt Prater followed by a touchdown from Julius Thomas.
Dwayne Bowe got the visitors on the board early in the second quarter, but Montee Ball restored the home side's 10-point cushion with a one-yard rush.
The Chiefs refused to relent, with Ryan Succop making it a seven-point game before the players left the field for half time.
However, another touchdown from Ball in the third quarter put the Broncos further ahead, before Prater kicked his team 17 points clear with just over seven minutes of the final quarter remaining.
Smith produced another touchdown pass for Anthony Fasano to put a dent in the deficit, but it proved insurmountable as they fell to their first defeat of the NFL season.
