Gunther Cunningham has said that DeAndre Levy has improved his focus this season.
The Detroit Lions linebacker has been a regular starter for the team since being drafted in 2009.
The defensive coordinator told the team's website: "I think the biggest thing I noticed when he came in this year was his focus. He really understands the game much, much better.
"I think [linebackers coach] Matt Burke has done a good job with him. The three of us have been together since we all got here. He had some injuries early in his career and he was around some guys that really didn't know how to play this game.
"It's really fun to see him grow and he's taking great command of the team on the sideline as well. [Levy] doesn't say much, but when he speaks up it's very volatile and very loud and he says the right things and it's not always what you like to hear. He's going to tell you the way he feels, which is a great thing. I'm proud of him. I can't say it any different way."
Levy has nine tackles and two interceptions for the Lions so far this season.
