The Detroit Lions defeat the New York Jets on the road in a 24-17 victory at MetLife Stadium to earn their third win of the 2014 season.

The Detroit Lions secured their third win of the season as they edged out the New York Jets 24-17 in their clash at MetLife Stadium.

The Jets started the game well and moved the ball efficiently downfield as Geno Smith completed several throws, while Chris Ivory ran well in the ground game, but they were forced to settle for a field goal from 27 yards from Nick Folk.

Detroit responded with a good drive of their own as a 35-yard reception from Golden Tate moved them into the Jets' half of the field, but they were also restricted to a field goal as Alex Henery nailed a 51-yarder through the posts.

The Lions took the lead when the Jets made a mistake in their secondary as they allowed Jeremy Ross to sneak in behind them and Matt Stafford hit the wideout for a 59-yard touchdown.

Stafford put his side further ahead when his offense took advantage of a penalty to move into the redzone and then fire a 16-yard touchdown pass to his tight end Eric Ebron.

In the second half, the Jets responded on the first drive and Smith managed to find receiver Eric Decker for an 11-yard touchdown in the back of the endzone.

However, the Lions managed to control the clock with a patient attack and they restored their commanding lead when Stafford ran in for the touchdown himself from three yards out.

The home side kept themselves in the game with a fourth-quarter touchdown as Chris Johnson burst through the line of scrimmage and ran all the way into the endzone for the 35-yard score.

Detroit showed composure late in the game with good awareness of the clock to kill the game and to hold out for the win.
