The NFL's vice president of officiating Dean Bladino believes that the officials weren't wrong to not award a penalty in favour of the New England Patriots in their defeat to the Carolina Panthers.

The NFL's vice president of officiating Dean Blandino feels that the officials didn't make a wrong call in not awarding a penalty for the New England Patriots in their defeat to the Carolina Panthers.

Bill Belichick's side were trying to win the game late on as Tom Brady drove them downfield and with no time left on the clock he threw into the endzone looking for Rob Gronkowski but was intercepted by Robert Lester.

However, judge Terrence Miles threw a flag as Luke Kuechly interfered with Gronkowski but he was overruled by referee Clete Blakeman who decided there was no foul and ended the game, much to the fury of Brady.

"I wouldn't say that they were wrong. They used proper mechanics," Blandino told NFL Network. "They got together after the play.

"They determined that in their judgment the contact occurred simultaneous with the ball being intercepted and that's why the officials did what they did."

The Patriots were involved in another controversial incident earlier in the season when a personal foul penalty was called against them in their defeat to the New York Jets.
