The New York Giants have secured their first win of the 2014 NFL season, beating the Houston Texans 30-17 at the MetLife Stadium this evening.
Both quarterbacks had difficult starts to the game as Eli Manning was sacked by JJ Watt before Prince Amukamara forced the turnover while Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Texans offense were on the field.
The Giants had the first chance to open the scoring as Josh Brown lined up a field goal attempt, but the kick was blocked to keep the tie scoreless early in the second quarter.
The home side finally opened the scoring when Manning tossed the ball to Victor Cruz, who completed a 23-yard run into the endzone for his first NFL touchdown in almost a year.
A Fitzpatrick interception just before the break brought the New York offense back into the field at the end of the second quarter, resulting in a short score for Rashad Jennings.
A short Randy Bullock field goal finally got some points on the board for the Texans in the third quarter before a deep pass from Fitzpatrick went straight into the hands of Damaris Johnson.
Manning re-established the Giants' advantage with a short pass to tight end Daniel Fells, while Fitzpatrick could only add a late consolation by running over from a couple of yards out.
