Jeff Garcia: 'Mark Sanchez can learn from 2012 season'

Former NFL quarterback Jeff Garcia hopes that Mark Sanchez will be able to learn from his loss of form in 2012.

Former NFL quarterback Jeff Garcia has said that Mark Sanchez must learn from 2012 season.

The New York Jets quarterback threw 18 interceptions and lost his place as a starter as the Jets missed out on a place in the playoffs.

Garcia, who has been working with the 26-year-old ahead of the 2013 campaign, told USA Today: "The most important thing for Mark is to take that tough season last year as a learning experience from the standpoint of how he can get better and give his team the best chance to win.

"That has to be done in terms of being confident in his ability to run this system and speak the language correctly. You really need to be secure in what you're doing mentally in order to compete at the highest level.

"The toughest thing is this will be Mark's third offensive coordinator in six seasons. The guy has had to learn a new system just about every other year. From a consistency standpoint, that just doesn't translate to success in the NFL."

The Jets have said that they will allow the quarterbacks on their roster to openly compete to be the starter for next season.
