New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith has admitted that he must stop conceding turnovers.
Smith has thrown eight interceptions already this season having only thrown six in the entire final year of his college career, while a calamitous fumble near his own goal line against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday resulted in a touchdown.
The rookie took full responsibility for the mistakes and apologised to his teammates before vowing to put an end to the number of turnovers being conceded.
"As far as those turnovers go, they have to stop now. A lot falls on my shoulders as far as taking care of the ball, but that's something I have to do. I know that I've been coached hard," Smith told reporters.
"No-one wants to make those mistakes. It's something that has to stop now in order for us to progress and to get better as an offence and as a team."
The Jets' 38-13 defeat to the Titans leaves Rex Ryan's side 2-2 for the season.
