The New York Jets have confirmed that they have released wide receiver Santonio Holmes after four years with the club.
The 30-year-old was due to earn $8m (£4.8m) in the 2014 season and the club have taken the decision to release him, as the wideout struggled for form and fitness during the 2013 campaign.
"I appreciate Tone's contributions over the last four seasons," head coach Rex Ryan told the club's official website. "I've always admired his knack for making the clutch play.
"He's a tremendous competitor who wants the ball in his hands when the game is on the line. I wish him nothing but the best."
Holmes recorded 23 receptions for 456 yards along with one touchdown last season.
