The Miami Dolphins are on the brink of missing out on the NFL playoffs having lost 20-7 to the New York Jets in their final regular season game this evening.
Neither side were able to open the scoring in the first quarter, but the Dolphins finally got the first points on the board early in the second when Ryan Tannehill picked out Mike Wallace in the endzone with a looping five-yard pass.
The Jets responded before half time, drawing back level when Sheldon Richardson burst through the middle from just a yard out for a touchdown.
The visitors then ensured that they would take a lead into the break when Geno Smith chose to go alone from seven yards, bouncing off a couple of tackles on his way into the endzone.
The third quarter also ended scoreless, with the next points coming with just 4:22 left in the match as Nick Folk kicked a 35-yard field goal to extend the Jets' advantage to 10 points.
Folk added another kick, this time from 26 yards, to edge his side into a 20-7 lead, and that was how it stayed as the Dolphins' playoff hopes were dealt a major blow.
They now need the San Diego Chargers to lose later today in order to clinch a wildcard spot in the playoffs.
