Chris Kluwe hails Marquette King power

Oakland Raiders punter Chris Kluwe admits that teammate Marquette King has the power advantage over him when it comes to kicking.

Oakland Raiders punter Chris Kluwe has praised the power that teammate Marquette King can get on his kicks.

Kluwe and King are currently competing to be the franchise's number one punter following the departure of Shane Lechler, but the duo appear to be sharing a friendly rivalry.

Kluwe admits that King has the power advantage over him and, as a veteran, is keen to help the 24-year-old learn the ropes in the NFL.

"He's got a cannon for a leg. I think I could have kept up with him when I was 22 or 23, but right now, power-wise, he's got it," Kluwe told reporters.

"When I came into the league, no one helped me out when I could have used some help. There are some things you learn as a veteran that as a rookie you just don't know."

King, meanwhile, believes that he has improved his mental fortitude since last season with the help of Kluwe.

"This year I've gotten so much better mentally. Now if I hit a bad punt, I don't even think about it. I'm to the point where I feel I'm going to hit a good one every time," King told reporters.

"[Kluwe's] a very cool guy, with a lot of knowledge about a lot of stuff. You can't treat your competition mean just because you're competing. He's trying to live a life like I'm trying to live a life."

The Raiders will face the Indianapolis Colts on the opening day of the new NFL season.
