Former San Diego Chargers running back LaDanian Tomlinson has said that Ryan Mathews should not hold out of the team's off-season workouts in a bid to secure a contract extension.
The running back is heading into the final year of his contract with the AFC West side, having posted a career-high 1,255 rushing yards in 2013.
Tomlinson, who now works as an analyst for NFL Network, told the San Diego Union-Tribune: "My advice to Ryan would be just to ball out like he did this past season, and everything will take care of itself.
"You go to everything in the off-season. You prove your worth to the team by being there, not by being absent."
Mathews featured in all 16 regular season games for the Chargers in 2013, scoring six touchdowns in the process.
