The NFL will decide whether or not San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was justifiably penalised for directing inappropriate language towards a member of the Chicago Bears.
The Niners lost 28-20 at home to the Bears on Sunday night, with Kaepernick throwing three interceptions and losing a fumble before being flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.
"I didn't say anything," Kaepernick was quoted as saying by ESPN.
49ers coach Jim Harbaugh insisted that he didn't hear anything from the sideline which would warrant a penalty, and while he didn't receive any explanation during the game, he hopes to gain clarification from the league.
San Francisco were flagged for 16 penalties on Sunday, which was a single-game high under Harbaugh and a tie for the second-most in an NFL game since 2011 as they slip to 1-1 for the season.
