San Francisco 49ers chief executive Jed York is adamant that the club are determined to get back to the Super Bowl following the departure of head coach Jim Harbaugh.

San Francisco 49ers chief executive Jed York has insisted that the club are determined to get back to the Super Bowl, despite parting company with head coach Jim Harbaugh.

The 51-year-old left the 49ers on Sunday in a mutual agreement with the franchise after a successful four-year tenure in which he led them to the NFC championship game three years in a row, while they tasted a narrow defeat to the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII.

York is adamant that the club are driven by their desire to win the Vince Lombardi trophy and believes that they can find the right coach to replace Harbaugh and deliver that success.

"It's up to us to make sure we compete for and win Super Bowls," York told reporters. "That's our only goal. We don't raise division championship banners; we don't raise NFC championship banners, we raise Super Bowl banners.

"And whenever we don't deliver that, I hope that you [fans] will hold me directly responsible and accountable for it, and we look forward to getting this thing back on track and getting you guys exactly what you deserve."

The 49ers missed the playoffs for the first time since 2010 as they posted an 8-8 record in the 2014 campaign.
