Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Alterraun Verner has conceded that he performed well below his best in the 2014 season.
The Buccaneers signed the 26-year-old to a lucrative contract last year after they released All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis.
However, Verner struggled to live up to expectations as he mustered just two interceptions in the season, while his team posted the worst record in the NFL.
"The reality is that I came nowhere close to my expectations," Verner told PewterReport.com. "I thought I was going to have at least six or seven interceptions - minimum.
"I only had two and dropped three or four. If I did my job better and understood the defense better I could have had more."
Verner has recorded 364 tackles and 13 interceptions in his five seasons in the league.
