Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden has insisted that keeping Robert Griffin III on the roster will not be a distraction to his team.
Gruden handed Kirk Cousins the starting quarterback job during pre-season, but also stressed that Griffin still has a role to play with the Redskins.
The 25-year-old will seek an independent neurologist this week in hopes of getting cleared from a recent concussion, and Gruden told reporters on Sunday that he would then make a decision whether Griffin or Colt McCoy will be the backup to Cousins.
The 48-year-old added: "We don't feel like he's a distraction at all. He's a quarterback that's young, talented and done some great things.
"You can never have too many quarterbacks in your building. That's very important. We learned that the hard way last year."
Griffin was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2012 after leading Washington to the playoffs, but persistent knee and concussion problems have hampered the quarterback in recent seasons.
