Larry Godfrey put in an eye-catching display to beat Juan Rene Serrano in the last 16 of the men's archery at Lord's.
In windy conditions at the home of English cricket, Godfrey ousted his Mexican opponent in a match that lasted four sets.
Godfrey edged the first set 26-25 but was then forced to share the points in the second as they finished level at 29-29.
Two maximums helped him to a 27-26 win in the third and another secured him victory in the fourth.
Godfrey's medal credentials will be tested once more when he lines up for the quarter-finals on Friday, when the medal positions will be decided.
