American sprinter Justin Gatlin emerged victorious from his 100m heat at the London Olympics this afternoon.
The 30-year-old hit the front of the field early and continued to stretch his lead as the race progressed.
He eventually crossed the line in 9.97s, which was a quicker time than his compatriot Tyson Gay managed in the opening heat.
Derrick Atkins of the Bahamas was second, while Trinidad's Rondel Sorrill finished in the final qualifying slot.
