Jason Collins has agreed a deal with the Brooklyn Nets and could make his debut for the franchise on Sunday night, according to sources close to the team.
The move will see Collins become the first openly gay active player in North America's four major team sports when he puts on the Nets jersey against the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday.
Collins will sign an initial 10-day contract with the Nets, who have moved quickly to secure a short-term option after missing out on a deal to sign Glen Davis after he decided to join the Los Angeles Clippers.
The 35-year-old has not played since appearing for the Washington Wizards in April 2013.
