The Brooklyn Nets have confirmed that Deron Williams underwent successful surgery on both of his ankles yesterday.
The point guard announced that he would need the operation following the team's exit from the playoffs earlier this month to remove bone spurs.
The team's foot and ankle specialist Dr Martin O'Malley said in a statement: "The arthroscopic surgery performed today on Deron's left ankle included the removal of spurs from the front and back of the ankle, as well as a cleaning out of his ankle joint.
"In addition, Deron underwent a procedure on his right ankle to remove a loose bone fragment that was below his right ankle joint."
Williams will spend four to six weeks on crutches while he recovers from the procedure, but is expected to resume full basketball activities in September.
