The New Orleans Pelicans have confirmed that Tyreke Evans underwent knee surgery on Tuesday as the team continue their preparations for the new season.
A statement released by the Pelicans revealed that the arthroscopic surgery on his right knee was a success, but they have not set a timetable for the 26-year-old's return to the court.
Evans will certainly miss the start of the season and his absence adds to the problems for new head coach Alvin Gentry, who is without Norris Cole due to an ankle injury while also having a minutes restriction on starting point guard Jrue Holiday.
There will be even more pressure on All-Star forward Anthony Davis as the Pelicans look to fill the void left by Evans, who averaged 16.6 points, 6.6 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game last season.
The Pelicans start the season against the Golden State Warriors next Tuesday.
