Adam Silver has revealed that the NBA wants to reduce the amount of back-to-back games on the schedule from next season.
A study recently revealed that teams that play two nights in a row score an average of 1.5 points fewer per 100 possessions in the second game.
The league's commissioner said in his annual address to the media ahead of the All-Star game: "The issue of back-to-back games, the issue of four games out of five nights, one of the things we're hoping to address, even for next season, is to come as close as we came to eliminating the four games out of five nights.
"It's a math formula at the end of the day in terms of the number of days in the season and the number of games we play, but we think we can make a dramatic reduction there.
"I think we can make a dramatic impact there. That may take more than one season. We'll have a reduction based on some additional television windows."
The move could see the number of pre-season games reduced in order to begin the regular season a week earlier.
