Mike Krzyzewski has confirmed that he will step down as coach of Team USA after the Olympics next summer.
The Duke head coach has led the American team since 2005 and guided squads to gold medals at both the 2008 and 2012 Olympics while juggling the commitment with his focus on NCAAA success.
"It is. It definitely is," the 68-year-old told ESPN when asked whether it would be his last four-year cycle with USA Basketball. "I think it's time to move ahead. During the next season there will be a number of decisions made about the future of USA Basketball with Rio and coaching.
"There has to be a succession... a planned succession with really good people so we can keep the continuity of the programme going."
Krzyzewski, who has won five NCAA tournaments with Duke, currently boasts a 75-1 record with Team USA.
