Promoter Eddie Hearn has suggested that Chris Eubank Jr could be in a position to face world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in the autumn.
Eubank is scheduled to defend his British title against Tom Doran at London's O2 Arena on June 25 but if he is successful, Hearn has said that a showdown with the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world is a strong possibility for September.
Hearn told Sky Sports News: "We're in a position now where we haven't agreed terms but we're well on the way to agreeing terms with Golovkin for a September fight with Chris Eubank Jr.
"He must beat Tom Doran - it's a defence of his British title. We've just seen Doran coming off the back of a fight of the year contender against Luke Keeler.
"He can really, really punch and if Eubank takes his eye off the ball he can forget about the likes of Golovkin. But certainly that fight is ramping up speed and don't be surprised to see Eubank-Golovkin in September."
Golovkin had hoped to face Saul Alvarez but that showdown is unlikely to take place until 2017.
