Rendall Munroe will come out of retirement after being told that he is no longer wanted in his former job as a binman.

Former EBU, British and Commonwealth super bantamweight champion Rendall Munroe has announced that he is coming out of retirement.

The 32-year-old hung up his gloves after being stopped in the sixth round by Scott Quigg in November, but has pencilled in a return bout on May 12 in his hometown of Leicester.

"I know I can still be a world champion," Munroe told the Leicester Mercury. "I've been sparring and it's definitely still there.

"I won't say I feel better than I used to, but I'm enjoying the training more."

Munroe is a former binman and had hoped to return to the job once his career inside the ring had finished, but his former employers have apparently told him that they no longer want him on staff.

"If they had me back on the bins, I wouldn't be thinking about boxing again," he added. "It was the perfect job for me. I was outside, exercising, seeing people and enjoying myself. I was there for eight years and only had one day off sick when they sent me home.

"We worked as a team. I was never disrespectful, did my work well and never had any disciplinary problems. I always said I would go back on the bins when I stopped boxing.

"I've been told they won't have me back because I've got an attitude problem - and that's rubbish."

Munroe fought Toshiaki Nishioka for the WBC strap in October 2010.
