British heavyweight Dillian Whyte says that he is hoping to secure a rematch with current IBF champion Anthony Joshua in 2017.

British heavyweight Dillian Whyte has said that he is targeting a high-profile fight at the end of the year before attempting to secure a rematch with Anthony Joshua.

In December, Whyte gave Joshua his toughest fight as a professional before being stopped in the seventh round, but the London-based puncher is looking to get back onto the path towards a second shot at the current IBF champion.

Whyte is due to compete for the British crown later in 2016 but he is hoping to secure a top-level opponent as he tries to gain a second opportunity to face his long-term rival.

The 28-year-old told Sky Sports News: "I want an eight-rounder warm-up, 10-rounder for an international title, a 12-rounder for the British title and then maybe one defence of the British title this year. Then a big fight at the end of the year with someone like Joseph Parker, Dereck Chisora, David Price or even David Haye.

"I want to be in the big fights. One of those kind of opponents at the end of year, close the year off, take some time off with my family and my missus. Next year, back on it and I want to whoop Joshua's arse next year."

Whyte is scheduled to appear on the undercard of Joshua's world title clash with Dominic Breazeale at London's O2 Arena on June 25.
