American Lamont Peterson has beaten Amir Khan to win the WBA and IBF light welterweight titles in a controversial split decision win in Washington DC.
The Brit began the fight on top with a first-round knock down. However, the American was able to recover, catching Khan in rounds three and seven with a series of blows.
While Peterson tried to keep the encounter close, Khan struggled to fight from distance and was twice docked points for illegal pushing.
The deduction proved decisive as the judges scored the fight 113-112, 113-112, 111-114 in favour of the hometown fighter.
