Irish middleweight Matthew Macklin needed just one round to stop Joachim Alcine on his Las Vegas debut.
The 30-year-old, who lives in Birmingham, was on the under-card of Sergio Martinez's convincing win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Macklin had been stopped by Martinez in his last fight and said during the week that he hoped a good performance might earn him another world title shot.
Alcine was under pressure from the off, and was sent to the canvas with an early right hook.
He had only just got to his feet before Macklin landed a hard left, which knocked him over for a second time.
Macklin backed the Canadian into a corner and unleashed devastating combinations until the referee jumped in with 30 seconds remaining on round one.
