Steve Smith 'satisfied' by Australia response at Lord's

Australia's star performer Steve Smith admits that defeat to England in the Ashes opener last week acted as a "big wake-up call" heading into the second Test at Lord's.

Steve Smith has warned his Australia teammates to expect a different type of challenge against an England side out for revenge in the third Ashes Test.

The tourists, who lost last week's series opener in Cardiff, dominated throughout the second Test to claim a mammoth 405-run win.

Smith admits that Australia were keen to prove a point at Lord's, although he is wary of a wounded England who collapsed in dramatic style on home soil.

"The guys came out with a lot of steam," he told BBC Sport. "The bowlers were aggressive and put the ball in some really uncomfortable areas for their batsmen.

"Cardiff was a big wake-up call for us, and this game we dominated from day one and we didn't let England back in. Being top of the player rankings doesn't bother me, the most important thing is contributing to winning games of cricket for this team.

"It's very satisfying to bounce back the way we have, but we know that England are going to come back strongly."

Smith scored a career-best double century in Australia's first innings to put them well on their way to an emphatic win.
