Australian batting all-rounder Steve Smith will take no part in the one-day international series against England after being sent home to rest his injured thigh.
The 24-year-old averaged 38.33 during the recently-completed Ashes tour, scoring his maiden Test century in the final match at The Oval.
He was also due to compete in the five 50-over matches against England, the first of which is on September 6 at Headingley, but suffered what is being described by Cricket Australia as a "very minor" strain during a training session on Wednesday.
The governing body told reporters: "After a demanding Ashes series, the national selection panel has decided it is best for him to return to Australia."
A record-breaking hundred from Aaron Finch inspired Australia to a 39-run win over England at the Ageas Bowl on Thursday, in the first of the two T20 internationals between the old enemies.
