South Africa batsman JP Duminy has helped his side reach 413-8 after he recorded a century in the second Test match against Australia.
The hosts resumed on 323-5 with AB de Villiers and Duminy at the crease, and they comfortably added to their total at the start of the second session.
However, with the score on 349, De Villiers was dismissed for 116 by Nathan Lyon to put South Africa's ambitions to reach 400 in doubt.
Vernon Philander fell for six after adding 29 for the seventh wicket, but Duminy remained in the middle to reach three figures with a boundary.
The 29-year-old will resume after tea on 118, but Wayne Parnell, who had added 10 to the total, fell to the last ball of the session.
