India closed day three of the first Test against Australia on 369-5 to move within 148 runs of their opponents in Adelaide.

The tourists resumed the evening session trailing by 294, with Shikhar Dhawan (25) the first to be sent packing when he careered Ryan Harris's delivery into his stumps.

Australia's attack was kept at bay by the work of Murali Vijay (53) and Cheteshwar Pujara (73), although the former saw his 81-run partnership come to an end by keeper Brad Haddin.

Pujara continued to rack up the runs, adding another 81 before being castled by Nathan Lyon.

There was a real scare when Virat Kohli was struck on the helmet by a Mitchell Johnson bouncer, but he showed no ill-effects by posting a century at the Adelaide Oval, linking up with Ajinkya Rahane (62) to close in on the Baggy Greens' tally.

Kohli was also involved in a 50-run partnership with Rohit Sharma - who ended on 33 not out - before being holed out to Harris.

Wriddhiman Saha (1) held out until stumps, with play set to resume tomorrow morning.
