Michael Clarke: 'Australia will respond'

Michael Clarke insists that Australia will not give up after England clinched control on a dramatic first day at Trent Bridge.

Australia captain Michael Clarke has insisted that his side will produce a response on day two after making a disastrous start to the fourth Ashes Test at Trent Bridge.

England are on course to clinch the urn in Nottingham after Stuart Broad inspired the hosts on the first morning with figures of 8-15 as Australia collapsed to 60 all out before lunch.

Clarke was then forced to watch Joe Root make an unbeaten century as England reached 274-4 at the close of play, but he believes that the tourists will not be beaten easily.

"The Australian way is to never give up," he told Test Match Special. "That has to be our attitude.

"We have to come here tomorrow and bowl England out and then bat as big as we have done in this series."

Australia were bowled out in just 18.3 overs in the morning, with none of their top batsmen scoring more than 10 runs.
