England move 317 runs ahead of Australia at lunch on day two of the fourth Ashes Test.

England have opened up a 317-run lead over Australia at lunch on day two of the fourth Ashes Test at Trent Bridge.

The hosts declared on 391-9 before putting the tourists into bat for the final 10 minutes of the morning session.

With England starting the day on 274-4, Joe Root added just six runs to his overnight score of 124 before he was caught by Peter Nevill off the bowling of Mitchell Starc.

Starc struck again two overs later when he dismissed nightwatchman Mark Wood for 28, while Jos Buttler was sent back to the pavilion soon after for 12 as Starc claimed his third wicket of the morning.

Josh Hazlewood and Nevill combined to send Ben Stokes packing for five before Moeen Ali's dynamic spell with the bat was ended when he was out for 38 off 45 balls thanks to Mitchell Johnson.

Stuart Broad, who was at the crease with Steven Finn, got himself to 24 not out before Alastair Cook decided to declare. Chris Rogers (8*) and David Warner then negotiated three overs ahead of lunch to leave the Aussies on 14-0.
