Kevin Pietersen believes that England's struggles at the World Cup are down to the selectors failing to pick their best team.
The one-day side, who are captained by Eoin Morgan, have clinched just one victory and suffered three defeats, which has placed them second from bottom in Pool A.
Pietersen, who was axed by the England and Wales Cricket Board last year, tweeted this morning suggesting that the team are failing because they are too interested in statistics.
The batsman made the claims after South Africa posted 411-4 against Ireland in their Pool B encounter, which is the second time in a row that the Proteas have hit 400 runs.
Pietersen tweeted: "cricket lovers - if you don't believe that world cricket has changed, then you never will! SA just scored 400 again in a 50 over game!"
One Twitter user replied to Pietersen asking why England can't reach the same feat, to which the batsman answered: "Cos the best team isn't playing & too interested in stats!"
Meanwhile, new ECB chairman Colin Graves has suggested that Pietersen still has a future with England.
