Nasser Hussian is adamant that Alastair Cook's problems with the bat are not solved despite his 95-run innings on day one of the third Test against India.

Nasser Hussain believes that Alastair Cook's 95-run performance in the first innings of the third Test does not mean that England's problems are solved.

The 29-year-old scored his first half-century of the series to ease the growing pressure on himself, but the former Three Lions captain feels that he may have to give up his leadership duties to get back to his best.

Hussain wrote in the Daily Mail: "Cook's 95 does not change anything. We all want to see England's best batsman, the man who will go on to become their leading runscorer, making scores consistently and the issue is how they get him playing like that all the time. One innings does not mean all his problems are solved.

"England eventually have to make a decision on Cook. Getting him back to his best as a batsman is still more important to the team than his captaincy.

"He went past Kevin Pietersen and David Gower on Sunday and he will go past Graham Gooch and many other stars of the world game as long as his batting returns to its best. That means more to England than his leadership."

England closed day one of the third Test on 247-2 at the Ageas Bowl.
