England captain Alastair Cook admits that he is 'concerned' by his team's batting following a 2-0 series defeat to Pakistan in the UAE.

England captain Alastair Cook has admitted that he is 'concerned' about the team's batting following his side's 2-0 series defeat to Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.

Cook and Joe Root had the best figures of the team after averaging over 32 runs across three Tests, while Moeen Ali, Ian Bell and Jonny Bairstow failed to impress.

The third and final Test in Sharjah ended in a 127-run defeat this morning, which has pushed England down to sixth in the world rankings.

"It is a concern," Cook told Sky Sports News. "When we were number one in the world we had a solid lineup but this side is in transition with new guys, very good players, coming in and finding their feet.

"We have to keep backing the guys but they have to keep working at their games and realise how tough international cricket is and how good you have to be to breakthrough into a consistent player."

England's next Test series is against South Africa in December.
