England post a world-record total of 444 in the third one-day international against Pakistan at Trent Bridge.

England have posted a world-record total of 444 in the third one-day international against Pakistan.

On an afternoon where records tumbled at Trent Bridge, Jos Buttler brought up the milestone with a four off the final ball of the innings.

After winning the toss, England got off to a fast start as Alex Hales quickly brought up his century on his home ground and it was not long before he was approaching Robin Smith's record score by an England batsman.

That total of 167 was broken as Hales hit his 22nd four to reach 171 but he was dismissed off the next ball with just under half the innings still remaining.

Buttler then came to the crease and brought up his half-century off just 22 balls but it appeared that he and Eoin Morgan would fail to take the team past South Africa's total of 443 against the Netherlands from 2006 as he twice failed to connect with the ball during the final over.

However, he found the boundary off the last delivery as England reached 444-3, which also puts them on the brink of wrapping up the best-of-five series against their opponents.
