England opener Jason Roy has admitted that he was happy to register his first one-day international fifty against Australia on Thursday.

Roy scored just 98 runs during the five-match one-day series with New Zealand earlier this summer, which resulted in his place in the team being put in jeopardy, but the Surrey batsman made amends with an innings of 67 during the 59-run defeat at the Ageas Bowl.

The 25-year-old told Sky Sports News: "There have been a few nerves coming into the series given that the first game of the last series wasn't one to remember, but I felt good out there. It was a shame that I didn't kick on out there and win the game for us.

"Ahead of the last series, you expect the different pace and angles of international cricket, but it's more a case of trusting myself and making sure that everything in my locker is in order."

England will be looking to level the series at Lord's on Saturday.
