Andrew Strauss concerned over future of Test cricket

Andrew Strauss thinks that it's "very dangerous" to assume that Test cricket will continue to be popular.

England captain Andrew Strauss has admitted that he is worried that people may lose interest in Test cricket unless it is "maintained and enhanced".

England became the world's number one Test side after completing a 4-0 series whitewash against India this summer.

"I think there's been some excellent Test cricket played recently which is fantastic, I think that's the best advert for the game," Strauss told Sky Sports News. "But I think we've got to realise that we have to market the game.

"We've got to encourage people to come to these grounds and encourage people to watch the games on TV. I suppose the burden is on the administrators to do that. I think the worst thing we could do is be arrogant and just assume that Test cricket will always be around and people will want to watch it because we've seen in all sorts of sports that that can be a very dangerous line to take.

"I think people are conscious that the game needs to be maintained and enhanced and hopefully moves are afoot to make sure that happens."

The national Test side will face their first series after being crowned the world's number one side when they face Pakistan in Dubai beginning January 17.
