England have tightened their grip on the second Test against Pakistan on a rain-shortened second day at Headingley.
The morning session was lost to the adverse weather, persistent drizzle preventing any play until 2.45pm and reducing the day to 59 overs.
Nonetheless, England pushed their first innings along to 302-7 - a lead of 128 - as nightwatchman Dom Bess made 49, captain Joe Root made 45 and Jos Buttler ended unbeaten on 34.
Root progressed from his overnight 29 but then perished half an hour into play on his home ground, having added just 16, while Buttler was reprieved on four when Hasan Ali spilled a catch at mid-wicket.
Despite none of the top order reaching 50, England look set to end their run of eight Tests without a win and level the two-match series at 1-1 thanks to their healthy lead.
