India reach stumps on 63 without loss in reply to England's first-innings total of 537 on day two of the first Test in Rajkot.

India have made a solid start to their innings after England posted a commanding 537 on day two of the first Test in Rajkot.

It was another impressive performance with the bat from the tourists as Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes scored centuries, helping the team to their highest score in India since 1984-85, but India have responded well by reaching 63 without loss at stumps.

England began the day on 311-4, and Ali added 18 runs to his overnight score before being bowled out by Mohammed Shami for 117.

Jonny Bairstow was taken out by Shami four runs shy of a half-century, but it was Stokes who led the charge as he hit 128 runs, which included 13 fours and two sixes off 235 deliveries.

After Umesh Yadav dismissed Stokes, the wickets began to fall, and the final man to fall was Zafar Ansari, who was trapped lbw by Amit Mishra on 32.

Stuart Broad, playing in his 100th Test, took the first over but it was a tough start for England as Murali Vijay and Gautam Gambhir were stubborn at the crease as they reached the end of play unbeaten on 25 and 28 runs respectively.

India trail by 474 runs.
