West Indies hold off England charge

West Indies battle to 155-4 to trail England by 244 runs at the end of day two in the first Test match.

The West Indies have reached 155-4 at the end of day two in reply to England's 399 in the first Test match in Antigua.

James Anderson, playing in his 100th Test, had removed Devon Smith (11) in the afternoon session to help reduce the hosts to 84-2 at the tea break.

England kept the pressure on when play resumed, with Stuart Broad getting Marlon Samuels (33) caught behind before James Tredwell took his first wicket when Kraigg Braithwaite (39) fell to a Chris Jordan catch.

At 99-4, the West Indies were staring at the possibility of a big first-innings deficit before Jermaine Blackwood (30*) joined Shivnarine Chanderpaul (29*) in the middle to halt England's momentum.

The tourists thought that they had removed Blackwood when Alastair Cook claimed a fine catch at slip off the bowling of Ben Stokes, but a no-ball handed the batsman a second chance as the West Indies battled to the close of play to prevent England from taking control.
