New Zealand win the second ODI to open up an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series against South Africa.

New Zealand opened up an unassailable 2-0 lead in the one-day international series against South Africa with victory in Kimberley this evening.

The Kiwis set the home side a victory target of 280 after finishing their innings on 279-8, with Kane Williamson blasting an unbeaten 145 from 136 balls.

Grant Elliot was the only other Kiwi to surpass 20 runs. He fell short of a half century by two when he was caught by Quinton de Kock off the bowling of Rory Kleinveldt.

The hosts began their innings tentatively, not hitting a boundary until the sixth over when De Kock swatted over midwicket.

The opener was soon on his way as Kyle Mills's delivery beat his bat and clattered middle stump.

Graeme Smith (66) and Colin Ingram (79) built a partnership that was finally ended in the 31st over when Smith was run out by James Franklin.

Faraad Behardien (31) was the only remaining South Africa batsman to put up any resistance as New Zealand tore through the tail end to claim victory.
