Ricky Ponting passed the 24,000-run mark during his final first-class match with Surrey today.
The former Australia captain started the day needing 19 runs to reach the landmark, and was 41 not out at the close of play.
Surrey finished the third day against Nottinghamshire 26 runs behind their opponents.
The 38-year-old, who is retiring from cricket later this year, scored 13,378 runs during his Test career.
