Pakistan bowler Mohammad Asif will be moved to an open prison next week, according to ESPN Cricinfo.
Asif was sentenced to a year in jail on Thursday for the part he played in the spot-fixing conspiracy.
A friend of Asif has stated that the 28-year-old will be moved from a closed prison to an open prison within the next week.
"I have only spoken to Asif a couple of times on the phone, I haven't been able to visit him just yet, but he has been told he will be moved to an open prison and that should happen within the next five to seven days," the friend told ESPN Cricinfo.
The move to an open prison would allow Asif more privileges and freedoms.
Furthermore, it would move him away from the more dangerous criminals that are typically housed in closed prisons.
Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir were jailed for 30 months and six months respectively for their part in the spot-fixing controversy.
The sentences relate to the Lords' Test match between England and Pakistan in August 2010.
