Pakistan batsman Younis Khan announces that he is to retire from one-day cricket after the first match of the ODI series against England in the United Arab Emirates.

Pakistan batsman Younis Khan has announced that he is to retire from one-day cricket after the first match of his country's series against England.

The 37-year-old was not expected to be named in the squad for the four-game series, which begins in Abu Dhabi today, but is set to make his 265th and final one-day appearance against Trevor Bayliss's side.

Younis, who made his one-day debut in 2000, is currently sixth on the list of highest run-scorers for Pakistan in the shorter form of the game with with 7,240 runs.

"I am proud to announce that, after playing for Pakistan for 15 years, I am announcing retirement," BBC Sport quotes him as saying.

"I consulted my close friends and family members before taking this decision. As a batsman, I have played a positive role in the team's wins in one-day cricket - and now I realise that its time to keep myself away from limited overs cricket."

Younis recently overtook Javed Miandad's record to become Pakistan's highest run-scorer in Tests.
