After losing Nasir Jamshed off the bowling of Morne Morkel early on, Ahmed Shehzad and Mohammad Hafeez took Pakistan past 50 until the latter was dismissed for 26.

Misbah-ul-Haq and Shehzad put on another important partnership before the former lost his wicket to Ryan McLaren.

Pakistan wickets began to fall in quick succession and only Shahid Afridi's knock of 26 offered up some resistance as his side were bowled out for 209.

The Proteas suffered an early setback in their run chase when Colin Ingram was bowled for four by Sohail Tanvir.

Pakistan claimed the wickets of JP Duminy (23) and Graeme Smith (14) to reduce their opponents to 49-3 inside 15 overs.

Afridi dismissed Faf du Plessis for 12 before David Miller was caught lbw for 11 by Mohammad Hafeez.

Wayne Parnell scored a quick-fire 22 off 21 balls but he fell to Mohammad Irfan, who also claimed the wicket of Morkel for five.

Ryan McLaren offered some resistance with a knock of 28 off 41 deliveries, but the stumping of Imran Tahir (3) saw South Africa bowled out for 143 to give Pakistan victory.
